Just a line to say how much I agree with your commentary in this week's issue of PE. Only thing is: is it too late now?
I've been campaigning for a better industrial strategy since 1965 (I was 16, and planning a career in the aircraft industry until the government crapped TSR2 etc), but to little effect. Your comment "manufacturing industry is not really regarded as essential to the economy" says it all. Until that changes we're on to a loser. Let's hope the penny drops while we've got something left.
