This day
Five years ago…
The engineering community was providing equipment to help the victims of the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami that struck Southeast Asia. Engineers for Disaster Relief (RedR) despatched engineers, managers and logisticians to oversee relief efforts to provide shelter and restore water and sanitation. DaimlerChrysler sent engineers and BP supplied aircraft to refuel emergency flights carrying aid.Ten years ago…
Ten years ago...
Carmakers with UK plants were voicing concerns that the strength of the pound was affecting the ability of manufacturers to compete with rivals in the euro zone. Rover claimed that the strength of sterling was a hindrance to its UK sites, and was pressing for early adoption of the European currency. Nissan echoed the sentiment, claiming that competitors based in France, Germany and Italy “could not believe their luck” at the euro/sterling relationship.
