GE has introduced a lightweight ultrasonic flaw detector for harsh environments.
The USM Go, which weighs 1kg, has been developed for use in carrying out inspections in the oil and gas, aerospace, power generation and automotive industries.
GE said it is the first instrument of its kind with pressure-responsive joystick control for ease of use. Data is viewed on a screen with an 800 x 480 pixel display, the largest pixel count of any instrument in its category.
The device is dustproof and waterproof, and withstands shock. Data can be downloaded through USB connectivity, and the device has a 2GB memory card, which can be expanded to 16GB.
Reports are in jpeg or BMP format, eliminating the need for special reading software.
