Carbon consortium
Shell and National Grid are joining ScottishPower’s carbon capture and storage (CCS) consortium, which aims to build the UK’s first commercial size CCS system operating from a coal-fired power station by 2014.
VW buys into Porsche
Volkswagen is to buy a 42% stake in the sports car unit of Porsche for €3.3 billion. The move is seen as another step towards combining the two German carmakers into a bigger automotive giant.
Energy for airport
Jacobs Engineering Group is to provide engineering design services for an Energy Centre at Heathrow Airport. The centre will combine combined heat and power, renewable fuels and conventional plant, and will serve the airport’s eastern campus development.
China contract for GE
GE has been awarded a $115 million contract to maintain and service gas turbines at a 1,560MW power station at Fujian Jinjiang in China. The company will supply parts, services, repairs and training and one major inspection period.
Defence double
BAE Systems has secured a £1.1 billion US defence contract to supply all-weather visibility systems for military vehicles and a £369.5 million contract to supply torpedoes to the UK Ministry of Defence.
Software teamwork
IT provider Imass is joining with Autodesk reseller Trionics to form a single team to supply manufacturing design solutions software. Trionics was one of the first resellers of Autodesk software in the manufacturing sector. Imass focuses on the energy sector.
